Eloping? Micro-wedding? 5 Reasons Milwaukee Should Be On Your List

Updated: Sep 15, 2020

I know, everyone wants to head to places like Hawaii, Florida, Mexico and Colorado to elope. These places all certainly have a lot to offer with their beautiful beaches, mountains, sun and sand. But, for those seeking a lower key destination, check out what Milwaukee has to offer.

I'm a Chicago girl at heart, so when I left Illinois and moved to Wisconsin, I was shocked to learn how much I actually loved Milwaukee. Milwaukee has so much to offer in a smaller, more intimate package. With distinct neighborhoods, diversity, culture and constant year round entertainment, it's certainly a place to add to your short list of possible elopement spots.

These 5 reasons to keep your sights on Milwaukee will make you wonder why more people don't make it their number one!

  1. Milwaukee actually makes it pretty easy to pick a popular spot. They publish a guide to renting space and include pricing and capacity for many indoor and outdoor venues. Did you know you can rent space on the beach right on beautiful Lake Michigan for a base price of $750. https://county.milwaukee.gov/EN/Parks/Plan/Rent-a-Venue My personal favorite indoor venue is the Mitchell Park Greenhouse...check it out! https://issuu.com/mkecoparks/docs/2020-rentalsguide-v1/6

  2. What it lacks in size, it makes up in beauty. Milwaukee has some of the most elegant and interesting architecture in the Midwest. Many buildings still stand from its early development. More recent development has brought modern design blended into historic architecture and forms a unique and warm landscape.

  3. Location, location, location. Milwaukee is just a short 90 minutes to Chicago and Madison. The areas in between vary from rural to urban life. Beautiful lakes, nature preserves butt up to urban excitement. Chicago has an excellent public transportation system and you can catch a train into Chicago just 30 minutes outside of the heart of Milwaukee. If history is more your speed, head over to the state capital. Madison is just 75 minutes away and filled with museums, historical markers, outdoor activities and so many great restaurants.

  4. Culture and diversity. There are few places where you can get an authentic Ethiopian dish and drive 10 minutes west and be in a corn field. But in Milwaukee, you can. Whether you are looking for beach, lake, city, culture, museums, adventure or calm, Milwaukee has it all.

  5. Easy to get to. With 3 major airports, an Amtrak station, excellent highway system and public transportation, getting to Milwaukee is a breeze. Milwaukee is home to Mitchell International Airport. O'Hare International Airport and Midway International Airport are closeby in Chicago and Madison is home to the Dane County Regional Airport. Milwaukee has an Amtrak station and there is a Coach bus stop in Kenosha, WI that travels to and from the major airports. Few cities offer the ease of transportation that Milwaukee offers.
